Review - Lord of the Rings : Conquest

What have they done?!

I loved the Lord of the Rings games for the previous generation. I think they are hack and slash goodness.

I also loved the Battlefront games.

So when I heard that Pandemic Studios, creators of the Battlefront games, were making a Lord of the Rings game in the vein of their afformentioned game, I was quite excited.

How could it go wrong?

Yet it did. It went very wrong.

Lord of the Rings conquest lacks everything that made the previous generation games in both series fun. The fighting is clunky and repetetive, the graphics are choppy and not up to par of the console it is on, there are framerate issues, the single player gameplay is extremely short, the online play is not all that fun, the level design is dry, and the IP is completly wasted on this hunk of crap.

You've broken my heart Pandemic.

I'll never love again.

Review - Quantum of Solace

The unfortunate thing about James Bond games is that for the rest of eternity they will have to be compared to Goldeneye for the N64.

So lets get this out of the way shall we. Quantum of Solace is not Goldeneye.

That being said it isn't a terrible game.

You play Daniel Craig's interpretation of Bond in a series of "action-ed up" scenes from movies Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

The game uses the Call of Duty engine, but also uses a third person cover system, allowing us some glimpses of our favourite neck breakin', martini drinkin', woman screwin' protagonist.

The mix actually works pretty well, although the cover system does feel a little bit overused for the man who seems to be able to dodge bullets, and pick off hired goons while on the run.

The single player campaign is also very short, clocking in at around only a few hours. The game also loses something as it progresses. The opening levels are quite fun, and the environments are lush and impressive, whereas some of the later levels feel dank and repetitive.

There is a bit of fun to be had with this game. Some of the game is inspired and impressive, but the majority of it is rather dry.

It's not that it's a bad game, just a very uninspired one.

If you are a huge fan of 007 it might be worth a rental, but it's definately not worth the 60 dollar price tag.
